Horse-racing: Swedish Drivers in Malta for next Tuesday’s Encounter Race

Malta Independent Friday, 27 April 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Race meetings will be held at Marsa next Sunday and Tuesday (1st May), both starting at 2pm and having 9 races on the card.

In Worker’s Day’s meeting, we have an international encounter race involving Swedish and Maltese drivers, another initiative giving more international exposure to our drivers and the opportunity for racing enthusiasts to witness foreign drivers’ talents on our racetrack.

Each meeting also includes a Premier class race for Malta’s best trotters over a short 2,140m distance.

A great race is anticipated on Sunday, where the line-up includes Tazza l-Kbira runner-up Nuage de Bourgogne and finalists Nabab du Chatelet and Onyx Speed, recent winners Utah Hornline, Nevaio des Bordes, Count of Life and Oviedo Vici, seasonal record holder Nono de Crouay and eight other top trotters, making the outcome virtually impossible to predict.

Tuesday’s is equally interesting with the participation of recent winners Quid de la Muette and Knockout Molar, forthcoming Skyparks Premier class finalist Skip Dimanche, recent Tazza l-Kbira finalist Troy Boshoeve and all others.

A Class A flat race features in Sunday’s card, with participants hailing from Ireland, USA and Great Britain. Buttermilk won last year’s Mediterranean Derby, Cheeky Jack, Darielli, Sleepwalking and Prince Yarraman have all won this year or in their last outing, while Little Anthony is scheduled to make its debut.

The recent Spring meetings have been truly spectacular and we expect nothing less from the coming racing encounters ...
