Neptunes Emirates managed to be the first team to make it to the final of the BOV Waterpolo Winter League when they defeated a strongly resilient San Giljan Giuseppe’s 6-4 largely through a good final session after having trailed throughout the first three.

The first two sessions were hotly contested affairs ending up 2-2 and 0-0. The third session was another close affair but San Giljan shaded it 2-1 to take a one goal lead into the final session.

However Neptunes recovered strongly in the final session, winning it 3-0 with goals from Lanzon, Stellini and Mercieca to win 6-4 and become the first team to make it to the final.

Sliema McDonalds managed to make it to the final in dramatic fashion when they defeated 3CX Exiles 7-6 with the winning goal coming in the dying seconds of the final session.

The first session saw Exiles shade it 2-1 while the second session ended 1-1 with both teams finely balanced. The third session ended in a draw - 2-2 - with Vassallo and Sullivan scoring two crucial goals which gave Exiles a one-goal lead at the start of the final session.

Sliema upped the tempo in the final session winning 3-1 with the final goal coming eight seconds from time through Lubrano – it proved to be their passage to the final against eternal rivals Neptunes.

Sirens Ritter Sport claimed fifth place in the competition after they easily defeated Marsascala meat.com.mt 14-6.

After sparring the first session 2-2, Sirens managed to win the second 4-2 building up a 2-0 lead at the interval. Marsascala had appeared to be in the game but faded badly in the third session with Jurgen Borg, Charlie Zammit, David Cutajar and Andrew Zarb Cousin among the scorers.

The final session was also in favour of Sirens who won 4-2, for a final score of 14-6 and 5th place.
