Music festival in Maltese
JG Promotions present Lissen, a music festival in Maltese that will take place on 21 and 22 September at Kordin Industrial Estate (Senglea Athletic football pitch)
The participating artists as well as their style are various, however the music played, will be in its majority original, contemporary and in Maltese.
The musical acts taking part are:
Brikkuni; Vince Fabri; Particle Blue (Claire Tonna); KażinSka; Danjeli; Plato’s Dream Machine; Sempliċiment tat-Triq; Brodu
The name Lissen is a play on the actual word Lissen, which literally means (in Maltese) ‘to utter a word or sound’, a metaphor for the musical product; also ‘listen’ in English − listening attentively to the music performed during this festival.
Artists that have established themselves on the local contemporary music scene such as Brikkuni, Danjeli and Plato’s Dream Machine will headline the musical programme on the two nights. Other participating artists are being given the opportunity to perform their works on a bigger scale for the first time.
These upcoming artists include the hip-hop act Sempliċiment tat-Triq who are preparing an exciting set full of surprises together with their fellow MCs, DJs and other accompanying musicians. Undoubtedly, the revelation of this festival will be the band Brodu. Although one may be initially sceptic about the quality of the group due to the name itself, this is just a witty move by the talented Mark Abela (iz-zizza) who is once again leading a brilliant musical project. All musicians of this group are in fact quite well known and established locally in rock, ska or alternative scenes.
Lissen will see the participation of Vince Fabri, veteran singer-songwriter in the Maltese language. Fabri will perform some songs of the group Brown Rice from the legendary TV programme Aħn’ Aħna jew M’Aħniex as well as other songs from his repertoire. Exclusively for Lissen, the duo Particle Blue consisting of Claire Tonna and Antoine Vella will give a set of electronic music as well as folk songs written by Claire and her father Brian Tonna.
Last but certainly not least, Lissen will feature KażinSka, which, after its impeccable debut at Gardjola Gardens in Senglea last July, will perform a set of popular Maltese marċi brijjużi. KażinSka is an unusual sextet of musicians where sounds of Maltese marċi intertwine with Ska and other sounds inspired by contemporary music.
Artists from Creative Island’s Dazzle troupe known for their exuberant burlesque shows will also be performing.Doors open at 8pm on both nights.
