The 22-year-old man, who was critically injured together with his girlfriend in an accident on Thursday, has lost his battle with life.

The man, Fernando Schembri, was driving a Rover 216 which crashed into a private residence at Ta’ Mrejnu, limits of Mġarr, at 1pm. Rescuers from the Civil Protection Department had to cut away parts of the vehicle to free the young man and woman from the wreckage. Both resided in Mosta.

Kirsty Vassallo, 19, is also in critical condition and continues to receive treatment.

Further police investigation and a magisterial inquiry are underway.
