Students of Maltese preparing for the CES examinations have a new book to study: Rosabelle Carabott’s De Soldanis: L-esploratur tal-Ilsien Malti. It is about the work of Canon Gann Piet Frangisk Agius de Soldanis, who was born in Victoria in 1712 and earned a name for himself as linguist, librarian and historian.

The book’s publication is one of the activities linked to a series to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of de Soldanis, who worked tirelessly to promote the Maltese language.

It was launched by Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono at the boys secondary school. The National Library in Malta is exhibiting manuscripts by de Soldanis. The book is to be put online in the coming days at  http://malti.skola.edu.mt/
