Ferrari to race Indian GP with Italian navy flag

Malta Independent Thursday, 25 October 2012, 15:56 Last update: about 11 years ago
Ferrari cars at this week's Indian Grand Prix will carry the flag of the Italian navy in a sign of encouragement for Indian and Italian authorities to find a solution involving two detained Italian sailors. The sailors are accused of shooting fishermen in February after mistaking them for pirates off India's southwest coast. They had been providing security aboard a cargo ship. Italy insists the incident took place in international waters and it should have jurisdiction. India claims the ship was in its waters. Ferrari says the flags will be featured on both of its Formula One cars, driven by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. The move drew approval from Italian Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi, who Tweeted that it "shows the entire country's support for our sailors."
