The Luna Rossa sailing team emerged from the shared determination and grand ambition of two men. Patrizio Bertelli, CEO of Prada, and German Frers, one of the world’s foremost yacht designers met in 1997 to discuss a cruising boat. In order to meet strict entry deadlines Bertelli organised a crew from scratch in a record time of just two weeks - a process usually taking many months.
Now an organization composed of over 150 people, four boats and two bases in Italy and New Zealand, the Luna Rossa team is one of the most renowned and beloved competitors of the America’s Cup - the oldest and most prestigious trophy in sport.
With the values at the heart of extreme sailing as a starting point for new ideas, Prada’s new masculine fragrance evolved from this pursuit of excellence. Taking the esteemed Luna Rossa name as its own, Prada Luna Rossa is a scent with a reverence for the natural world and draws its inspiration from the world of extreme sailing, prestige, marine nature and passion for innovation and victory.
The nose behind this fragrance is perfumer Daniela Roche-Andrier. The composition is developed around the main note of lavender. Intensity and freshness of accords are emphasized by the use of classical notes in new, innovative ways. Those notes include lavender absolute and bitter orange in the top, clary sage and spearmint in the heart, and ambrette absolute and ambroxan molecule in the base.
Designed by Yves Behar, the Prada Luna Rossa bottle is inspired by the technological excellence and sleek, dynamic beauty of extreme sailing boats. The power of the elements is reflected in the materials and design, which project both strength and sophistication. The glass bottle’s metal carapace cut with vertical apertures reveals the silver juice inside. The dark, stormy silvers of the bottle are shot through with an iconic red line, a symbol of innovation.
