A small garden was inaugurated at Mellieha yesterday, marking the title Mellieha won in 2009 when it was declared by the EU as a destination of excellence. The garden, in the heart of the village, is surrounded by the primary school, the local council’s premises, the football ground and the home for the elderly.

It will be the schoolchildren themselves who will be looking after the garden during their scholastic year, with the assistance of the local council. They will be planting flowers and plants, watering the garden regularly, and removing weeds.
