Ferrari boss rules out Vettel joining Alonso

MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO, Italy (AP) — Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali has rejected the idea of a "dream team" of Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel won his third successive Formula One championship last season, edging out Alonso into second place, just as he had done in 2010.

Speaking at Ferrari's annual winter retreat in the Italian Dolomites on Wednesday, Domenicali says "a dream team is something extraordinary if it is managed well and if things work. At the moment it's not our aim, we have to maximize the balance of the team, we have to be more prudent."

Alonso's teammate, Felipe Massa, was given a new one-year deal after improving in the second half of last season.

Domenicali says Massa "is the driver we want. ... I'm certain he will perform as he wants to do, for himself and us."

Ferrari has signed Pedro De La Rosa as a development driver for the upcoming Formula One season.

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali made the announcement on Wednesday at Ferrari's annual winter retreat in the Italian Dolomites.

He says "we must anticipate problems we have and focus on simulation. We think Pedro is the right person to develop this type of activity."

De La Rosa was left without a drive after the HRT team closed at the end of last season.

The 41-year-old Spanish driver has started 105 grands prix, with Arrows, Jaguar, McLaren and Sauber, as well as HRT.

De La Rosa will be reunited with former McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso.

Ferrari will reveal its new car on Feb. 1 at Maranello.
