Silver medals for Marsovin wines in Spain

Marsovin has just been awarded two silver medals after submitting their wines to the prestigious international wine competition Cinve2012, which took place in the Spanish town of Valladolid.

The wines which have been awarded form part of Marsovin’s Boutique range namely, the Primus and Guze Passito.

Marsovin Director Jeremy Cassar comments, “It is the first time that Marsovin has participated in this competition and we are delighted about the news, what more it is also the first time that a wine made from the indigenous grape Gellewza has won such a prestigious award when competing at a premium level”.

Primus is the first Imqadded Ta’ Malta wine ever produced in Malta. The process is similar to that of an Amarone Della Valpolicella except that the grapes are sun dried after harvest rather than cold dried. The grapes are hand-picked just as they reach full ripeness in September, then they are left untouched in grape crates to sun dry on the winery. During this time, the grapes are naturally dehydrated by the elements, adding to the concentration of aromas, sugars and acids in the juice.

On the other hand Guze is a complex sweet red wine  produced from carefully hand-picked shiraz grapes from selected vineyards in Malta and must be in a perfect condition at harvest as the production of this type of wine requires that the individual bunches of grapes are very carefully laid down in a well -ventilated and humidity controlled environment for a period of four to six weeks until the grapes become partially raisined and concentrated to about half their original weight before being pressed and vinified into wine. The wine is then allowed to age and mature in French oak barrels for eight to 12 months.
