Malta Independent Friday, 22 February 2013, 20:58 Last update: about 11 years ago

The national broadcaster has called for the resignation of the Broadcasting Authority chairman Twanny Tabone.

PBS said this in reaction to a statement issued by the BA in which the authority accused it of not  being impartial in its news bulletins.

The BA said that it has written to the national broadcaster to complain about a number of shortcomings, which it said are of major concern.

The BA is demanding that PBS rectifies the current imbalance immediately, especially in the current circumstances with only two weeks left for the election campaign.

The authority said than in recent months it held a number of meeting with the national broadcaster, to discuss aspects of concern, some of which have been addressed.

In its reaction during the 8pm news bulletin, PBS accused the BA of charging it without even giving it the opportunity to defend itself. PBS accused the BA chairman of buckling under pressure and said that he would do best if he steps down.
