Godfrey Scicluna, 61 from Paola, a former head of the Security Service was arraigned in court accused with causing involuntary grievous body harm to 90-year Raffaele Lughermo in June.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona, heard that while Mr Scicluna was parking his car in Paola, he realised he had hit a person. This was on 2 June at around 1pm.
Mr Lughermo had died some time later of natural causes. It had already been established that the man did not die due to the injuries sustained.
Mr Scicluna has suspended himself from the secret service.
He was arraigned by Inspector Jurgen Vella while Dr Gianella de Marco and Michael Sciriha appeared as defence lawyers. Mr Scicluna was not arraigned under arrest.
