PL failing to live up to electorate’s expectations - Zammit Dimech

Malta Independent Wednesday, 1 May 2013, 12:28 Last update: about 11 years ago

PN leadership race contender Francis Zammit Dimech said that his loyalty towards the party is what drove him to run for the post of party leader.

Addressing PN councillors in St Julian’s, he said that he has offered his services to the party out of a sense of duty.

Dr Zammit Dimech said that he wants to see the Nationalist Party emerge as a winning party and therefore felt that it is his duty to help the party reach its goals.

He said that such goals may be achieved through his vast experience in politics, after having served the party on many levels, adding that teambuilding is vital.

Dr Zammit Dimech emphasised that more and more people were noting that the Labour Party in government isn’t living up to the electorate’s expectations and was doing the opposite of what it promised prior to the election.

Dr Zammit Dimech told councillors present that they should be proud to be living an important moment where an important decision has to be taken during difficult times.

He urged councilors to be courageous “because from now we must work hard to see the party win the next general election; and before that, we also have other challenges to face, the MEP elections, and local council elections in two years’ time”.

He said that as long as “we are all determined to work 24/7 as a team, we will override the challenges that lie ahead in both the interest of the party and the country”.

He further stated that he will dedicate all his time and energy towards the party and therefore asked the councillors to place their trust in him and support him in the leadership election.

He expressed satisfaction that all PN race contenders agreed to organising the last activity before the election, being held on Friday, as a team.

Concluding, Dr Zammit Dimech said that he would like to see the PN headquarters, along with the PN clubs a centre of continuous activity.
