FIAT professional range helps companies reduce carbon footprint

Malta Independent Monday, 6 May 2013, 18:33 Last update: about 11 years ago

Today, many companies are fast becoming more conscious about their carbon footprint and company audits are placing a lot more emphasis on carbon emissions, not to mention the basic assumption that safeguarding the environment should be at the core of any company’s operations.

The popularity of the FIAT Professional range of vehicles is owed to the wide functionality and practicality that suit today’s business needs. No wonder FIAT Professional, with its range of commercial vehicles specifically for small and medium-sized businesses keeps confirming itself as a preferred choice by the business sector.

“Company fleets signify a substantial portion of any organisation’s carbon footprint and as such ensuring that all vehicles are more eco-friendly is close to a must,” says Francesca Mamo, Managing Director of UCIM Co Ltd, importers and distributors of FIAT in Malta.

This fact is also known and appreciated here in Malta in fact, only very recently, UCOM Co Ltd has delivered a fleet of Doblò Cargo vans which have been leased by Maltapost and just a month ago, 26 Doblò Cargo vans were leased and delivered to GO.

“GO’s decision to switch to Fiat Doblò was mainly based on space, economy and drive. Not many small vans out there offer these three qualities at such a fantastic price,” said David Micallef St. John, Manager PR & Communications at Go. “Our team of technicians have to dodge parking issues whilst carrying an array of tools and parts to see to our over 500K connections. The Fiat Doblò, which is capable of taking a load capacity of 750kg, is showing us what a perfect all-rounder it is,” added Mr Micallef St John.

Pierre Montebello, Chief Operations Officer at Maltapost said, “the Fiat Doblo is extremely roomy and is the best-in-class in terms of capacity, making it ideal to carry items typically sent through the postal network. It is robust and has a strong engine that offers good torque with comparatively very low emissions. The van has a tight turning radius compared to its size, making it extremely useful also when used for deliveries in narrower streets as typical in villages and smaller towns.”

Companies and businesses who are conscious on reducing their carbon footprint will be interested to learn that for the second year in a row, the Fiat Professional brand has received an award for its ongoing research into lowering environmental impact and, above all, the reduction of CO2 emissions.

In first place in the ‘Small Van’ and ‘Large Van’ categories respectively are the compact Fiorino, with 109 g/km of CO2 and the versatile Fiat Ducato with 179 g/km. These are both excellent figures in a competitive market which is particularly attentive to environmental issues.

The two green awards won by Fiat Professional add to the long Fiat Group Automobiles list of important international awards which confirm its constant commitment to eco-compatible mobility, a strategy which has made Fiat undisputed leader in Europe: in the last five years, Fiat is the brand that has recorded the lowest level of CO2 emissions from cars sold in Europe, with an average value of 118.2 g/km in 2011 (4.9 g/km less than the average in 2010), figures that keep improving to this very day.

Fiat’s Professional range, purposely designed to cater for the more heavy-duty needs of businesses has over the years delivered models which the market regularly acknowledged as regular winners. The Fiat Iveco was the first model to scoop the Van of the Year award in 2000 followed by the Fiat Doblo in 2006, the Fiat Scudo in 2008, the Fiat Fiorino in 2009 and the Fiat Doblo cargo in 2011.

This popularity keeps being reflected in the number of regular success stories in various markets.  In the Netherlands, the Fiat Ducato and the Fiat Fiorino have just been named the most eco-friendly vehicles, in Ukraine, the Fiat Doblò today is the leading commercial vehicle, the Fiat Ducato of which 2.2 million units have been sold, is first amongst commercial vehicles when it comes to eco-friendliness.
