Discrimination against EU Nationals in Malta must stop – AD

Malta Independent Saturday, 11 May 2013, 10:14 Last update: about 11 years ago

AD-The Green Party supports discriminated foreign EU nationals resident in Malta who are being discriminated against and is asking entities such as Go plc, the Water Services Corporation and Enemalta if the deposits paid by non-Maltese EU citizens to these companies prior to 2004 have been refunded following Malta’s accession to the EU.
Prof. Arnold Cassola, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, stated: “Non-Maltese EU citizens, unlike Maltese nationals, had to pay deposits against telephone land line subscriptions and water and electricity services prior to Malta’s accession to the EU. Now that Malta has joined the EU, these EU citizens should be treated like Maltese nationals and therefore have their deposits refunded.  They should also be treated like Maltese residents when it comes to the payment of Water and electricity bills”.
All residents are to be treated in the same way, as Maltese citizens are treated in other EU countries, concluded Prof. Cassola.
