'SVDP transfered employees replaced by hard-core PL activists' - PN

Malta Independent Tuesday, 28 May 2013, 17:03 Last update: about 11 years ago

The PN said in a statement that it is highly concerned over a number of transfers involving employees at the State’s home for the elderly, St Vincent de Paul.

“The PN has always been at the disposal of elderly people, including dementia sufferers.

“The Activity Centre within St Vincent de Paul serves as a day respite centre for patients who suffer from dementia.

“Yesterday, the relatives of patients suffering from this condition were requested to collect their relatives since the centre was closing down.

“Next in line were the employees, who received a telephone call informing them that the centre won’t be closing down but had to report to the hospital’s superintendent so that an alternative may be found for the employees.

“It transpired that the centre will now be led by an occupational therapist, among other staff, most of whom are hard-core Labour Party activists,” the PN said.

It further stated that yesterday’s transfers follow a string of other unreasonable transfers that were made within the same elderly home.

The PN questioned what the PL’s roadmap in this sector is all about, while also raising the question if the Labour Party conducted a study to determine what impact such decisions may have on elderly patients and their families.
