Ryan Giggs will be given a player-coaching role next season at Manchester United.

The 39-year-old Giggs has spent his entire career at United since making his debut in 1991. He has been taking his coaching diplomas and is due to attain the UEFA Pro Licence, United said in a statement.

Giggs, who extended his contract for one year, said "it's a great privilege to be appointed a player-coach. I hope I will be able to bring my experience to bear, having been both a player and part of the Manchester United family for so long."

United's new coach, David Moyes, had already brought in three coaches from former club Everton to join his backroom staff. Former United defender Phil Neville is also expected to join the revamped coaching team.
