An 83-year-old man is in critical condition after the car he was driving crashed into a bas shelter and adjacent wall in Xlendi this morning.

The accident happened at 10am in Qsajjam Street.

The elderly man was pulled out of the car by members of the Civil Protection Department. A passenger in the car, an 84-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital suffering from grievous injuries.

Both are from Kercem, the police said.
