Transfer news: Higuain's move to Arsenal hindered by Chelsea interest

Malta Independent Friday, 19 July 2013, 12:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Gonzalo Higuain’s protracted move to Arsenal has taken a new twist – with the player himself revealing that Chelsea want him, Talksport reports.

The Real Madrid striker has been linked with a transfer to the Emirates throughout the summer, but a deal looks to be as far away as ever.

Napoli are also said to be keen on the 25-year-old, but the Argentine international now claims his former Bernabeu boss, Jose Mourinho, wants to take him to London.

Spanish newspaper AS is reporting that Chelsea have made an offer to Madrid and, although no figures have been released, it is thought the La Liga giants are looking for a fee of around €40m.

But it’s the personal involvement of the Stamford Bridge manager that could swing things in the Blues’ favour with Higuain apparently telling close friends: “Mourinho wants me there.”
