Transport Malta halted from conducting works on pavement

The First Hall of the Civil Court today welcomed a prohibitory injunction presented by three shop owners against Transport Malta so that for the time-being no works will be conducted on a pavement outside their outlet.

The prohibitory injunction was presented by Joseph Portelli, Miguel Portelli and Mariana Portelli against Transport Malta and the St Paul’s local council.

The three are the proprietors of the lotto office, Michele’s cafeteria and Tipsy Wines and Tobacconists situated in Tourists’ Street, corner with Masks’ Street in St Paul’s Bay.

The purpose of the pavement, according to the local council, was to ensure pedestrians’ safety while there are plans that the zebra crossing is moved further down the road since it presently lies in the corner, posing a danger.  The major concern is that a bus terminus lies in the vicinity and the area has a high volume of traffic.

The council said it had tried to come to some form of agreement with Transport Malta on the issue but to no avail after it conducted works on the pavement.

TM had requested the council to remove the newly placed pavement and restore it to its original state.

The council said that TM had warned the council that if it didn’t conduct the works on the pavement, TM would do so.
