Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said during his budget speech that Malta’s deficit would be brought down to 2.7% of Gross Domestic Product. However, just a day later, European Commissioner Olli Rehn said that EU projections show that Malta's deficit is set to swell to 3.4% by the end of the year. One wonders how economists can have such contrasting views.
