Former minister gave 100 encroachments in two months - PL

Malta Independent Friday, 29 November 2013, 11:56 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Labour Party said in a statement today that encroachments were only given by PN MP Jason Azzopardi when he served as minister during the previous legislature, describing his actions as “another case of doing politics in an irresponsible manner, something the PN government is known for”.

“It emerged yesterday that the former minister allowed 100 encroachments in a matter of two months when the limit is that of 150 encroachments in a whole year,” the PL said.

“This can also be linked to the issue of the Good Causes Fund which fell under the responsibility of then minister Tonio Fenech, where investigations conducted by the Auditor General showed that the way the funds were distributed led to a lack of funds for 2014 since most of the funds were eaten up between January 2011 and prior to the general election, March 2013.

“This is the style of politics of the past, where government institutions end up serving as political tools so that ministers could please one or the other and this to the detriment of taxpayers,” the PL said.

The PL highlighted that PN leader Simon Busuttil should shoulder responsibility for these actions.
