Public consultation on sale of food supplements launched

Malta Independent Monday, 2 December 2013, 12:46 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Health Ministry today launched a public consultation on the importation and sale of food supplements in Malta.

One of the ideas being touted is the potential sale of these supplements in supermarkets. Currently, such supplements can only be sold by qualified health vendors in pharmacies and health shops.

The white paper suggests a system whereby food supplements can be purchased over the internet for personal use only if a doctor’s prescription is obtained, and the health ministry is notified about the purchase through a dedicated webpage.

Health Minister Godfrey Farrugia said that no watering down of standards will take place.
