National sports conference in June

Sports psychology, sports media coverage and obesity will be among the issues to be discussed during this year's national sports conference which will be held between 6 and 8 June, at the Cottonera Sports Complex. This was announced during a press conference addressed by Tim Sports PN at this same complex this afternoon.

Robert Cutajar, opposition's spokesperson for youth and sports emphasized the fact that sports should shy away from all partisan political, and the opposition is willing to collaborate with the government with regard to this issue. He said that he already had consultation meetings with parliamentary secretary Chris Agius, who will be addressing the conference in June. 

The conference, spread over three days, for the first time will be welcoming international sports figures. Nick Powell, Sky Sports chief editor will be addressing a talk regarding sports and the media,  while ex Juventus player Beniamino Vignola will share his experience with local athletes.

On 6 June, team sports tournaments will be organized, with the participation of both local and international sports teams. Local councils are invited for discussions held on the 7th of June - which will also tackle the importance of sports inclusion in schools, university and day centres. Fillippo Mariani will hold a discussion about the way in which sports can help prevent bullying.

The annual Puttinu football marathon will be held during the same weekend. Foreign athletes are invited to bring along merchandise which will be auctioned in aid of Puttinu Cares.

During the press call, MEP candidate, and ex futsal referee Norman Vella said that for the first time, the EU included sports as a line item in the budget allocated for 2014-2020. Mr. Vella said that one one should not only look at sports from an economic angle, but rather as a discipline that calls for equality and social inclusion, particularly for persons with disabilities.
