The minister responsible for the film industry, Manuel Mallia, along with the Film Commissioner, Engelbert Grech, announced a new system as an incentive to boost the film industry by attracting more foreign film-makers to Malta, that of an increase in the percentage related to cash rebates.

The cash rebates system offered by Malta can now reach 27%. The normal rate is that of 25% and an additional two per cent if the film will include an element of Maltese culture.

Minister Mallia noted that this system is a game changer which is expected to place Malta back on film industry map – an industry which was left in a state of abandonment, according to the minister.

He noted that the film commission is also embarking on an intense overseas marketing campaign.
