PN unhappy with Auditor General’s report on WasteServ

Malta Independent Wednesday, 16 April 2014, 17:32 Last update: about 11 years ago

Waste management projects in 2011-2012 were “unchartered territory” for not only WasteServ, but all the other relevant authorities like the Contracts Department and MEPA, the Nationalist Party said in a statement in reaction to a report published by the Attorney General yesterday.

The report, titled “An Analysis of WasteServ Malta Limited’s Procurement: A Case Study Perspective,” focuses on the entity’s procurement.

The PN said that technical team employed at WasteServ often had to upgrade parts of the plant in order to keep up with advancing in technology.

The PN pointed out that WasteServ was often entering into unchartered territory, particularly when old dumps were being rehabilitated, as it is not possible to know what was dumped there in that past.

The PN said that the process was always approved Department of Contracts after they were scrutinised by technical people, the PN said.

The PN said that the Auditor General’s report does not give sufficient cognisance to the difficulties faced by WasteServ.

The Party also said that the Auditor General did not talk to many people who were removed from the entity when the Labour Party came to power.
