Shadow minister for education Joe Cassar has questioned why Education Minister Evarist Bartolo has asked the newly appointed data commissioner to review the legal notice which enables the minister to request private data of children attending educational institutions.

Speaking to this newspaper, Dr Cassar said that if Minister Bartolo really had the blessing of the former commissioner – as Mr Bartolo is saying - to go ahead with the legal notice, why now turn to the new commissioner to review the LN once again?

While The Malta Independent has information that Mr Ebejer was not present during meetings held between education ministry officials and the office he headed at the time the government asked for advice related to the LN, the government has denied that Mr Ebejer was not there.
