A mother of one was this morning transferred to Mater Dei Hospital from Gozo after she was allegedly stabbed in the head with a screwdriver by her former husband, a Maltese national, during an argument.

The woman, 48, from Xaghra is in danger of dying, police said. She was rushed to hospital by means of an AFM helicopter.

The man, 43, is in police custody after he reportedly fled the scene following the incident.

Police said that the woman was found lying on her bed with a wound to her head.

The incident occurred in Guzeppi Grech Street.

A Magisterial inquiry is underway.
