Prayers for ‘Joseph’ and ‘Marie-Louise’ during Good Friday function in Gozo

People attending the Good Friday function in the Gozo Co-Cathedral last Friday, led by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech, were surprised that the Prayers of the Faithful including a specific prayer for “Joseph” and “Marie-Louise”.

Although no surnames were mentioned, the people attending the service immediately thought of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and President Marie-Louise Colerio Preca.

Prayers are normally said for leaders during such functions, but it is not normal that the names are mentioned.

The prayer came hours after Ms Coleiro Preca signed the civil unions bill, after Parliament, spearheaded by Prime Minister Muscat, had voted in favour of the law.

The Church has spoken out against the law, with Auxiliary Bishop Charles Scicluna saying that although the law has its good points, it is not in the best interest of the children.
