Malta Independent Monday, 21 April 2014, 22:25 Last update: about 12 years ago

Following a big success of the first edition of the Malta International Music Festival in July 2013, the second edition of the event will be held in Malta between 27th of April and 11th of May 2014.

Though the main components of the MIMF remain the same, they have significantly increased in value, namely:

The number of the tutors – internationally acclaimed musicians – has expanded. In addition to prof. Arkady Zenziper and prof. Yuri Didenko (piano) who honoured the event by their presence in July 2013, this year the MIMF proudly announces the new names - Dmitri Teterin, prof. Ming Yang, prof. Leonel Morales and Giuliano Mazzoccante (piano), Hayrapet Arakelyan (saxophone), prof. Alexander Zagorinsky (cello), Dora Schwarzberg (violin) and Verena Rein (voice).

Therefore, the number of musical instruments in 2014 has increased too: in addition to piano and saxophone in 2013, the new instruments are to be present in MIMF 2014 edition - cello, violin and voice.

The highlight of the 2nd edition of MIMF is, no doubt, the Piano Competition, scheduled from 7th till 11th of May 2014. The total prize value of 14’350 Eur. Age categories and prizes:

Opening Ceremony on the 27th of April, Gala concert of the Festival on the 6th of May and Closing Ceremony of the Piano Competition are to be held at Manoel Theatre.

Maltese participants willing to take part in the Festival can apply for a scholarship.

The MIMF has proved to have a truly international and cosmopolitan spirit, because it attracts the student participants from various countries.

As it has been previously set at the first edition of the MIMF, the Maltese students will be awarded with a number of special prices and privileges.
