Gozitans guilty of selling honey imported from Sicily but marked as Maltese

Two Gozitan men were given a suspended jail term sentence after they were found guilty of selling honey imported from Sicily but marked as Maltese. Their mother was fined €700 for being in possession of a product which was below standard.

Jamie Charles Martin Enriquez, 32 and Simon Kris Enriquez, 38 from San Lawrenz were convicted of selling honey imported from Sicily but marked as traditional Maltese honey.

They were found guilty to the charges of counterfeit labelling, false publicity and selling produce which was not of the quality expected by the buyer.

Their mother, 60-year old Michelina Enriquez was not found guilty for such charges. She was only found guilty regarding the quality of the product.

The court found Jamie Charles Enriquez and Simon Kris guilty of all charges. The two brothers were handed a six month jail term suspended for a year. Their mother Michelina was convicted of being in possession of produce which was below standard. She was fined €700. The court also ordered that the accused pay all court fees related to the appointment of experts.
