A 23-year-old man from Birzebbuga was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €3,000 after he pleaded not guilty to violently resisting arrest, assaulting and slightly injuring a policeman.
He also pleaded not guilty with filing a false police report, disobeying police orders and committing a crime while on probation.
When Drug Squad officers stopped Alfred Schembri in Marsaxlokk during the “San Girgor” feast to search him, he became violent and slightly injured Police Constable Luca Grasso. Legal Aid lawyer Allesandro Lia defended Schembri in front of Magistrate Neville Camilleri while Inspector Malcolm Bondin prosecuted.
