More arrivals, more nights spent in collective establishments

Total arrivals and nights spent in collective accommodation establishments during February advanced by 12.6 and 2.8 per cent respectively when compared to the corresponding month last year.

Total arrivals in collective accommodation establishments during the month under review numbered 86,961, while total nights spent amounted to 430,898. Excluding 4-star hotels, all other hotel categories recorded increases in total nights spent. The largest share of guest nights was reported in 4-star hotels, accounting for 208,692 nights, or 48.4 per cent of the total.

The average length of stay in collective accommodation establishments went down from 5.4 nights in February 2013 to 5.0 nights during the month under review. The net use of bed-places stood at 43.1 per cent, up by 1.0 percentage point when compared to the corresponding month last year.

Total arrivals in Malta numbered 81,987, up by 12.9 per cent over February 2013. Additionally, a rise of 2.6 per cent was recorded in the number of nights spent. Meanwhile, the average length of stay edged down by 0.5 of a night to 5.1, when compared to last year. The net occupancy rate went up from 42.6 per cent to 43.8 per cent.

Total arrivals and nights spent in Gozo and Comino increased by 7.6 and 12.6 when compared to the comparative month last year, reaching 4,975 and 12,167 respectively.

On a national level, there were 140 active collective accommodation establishments during February, with a net capacity of 16,580 bedrooms and 36,256 bed-places. On average, each establishment had 2.2 beds per room.

Total arrivals during the ? rst two months amounted to 154,165, an increase of 12.1 per cent over 2013. Total nights spent went up by 1.9 per cent, reaching 806,332. The net use of bed-places advanced by 0.8 percentage points to stand at 38.8 per cent.
