Malta Independent Tuesday, 8 July 2014, 22:26 Last update: about 11 years ago

Shocking indeed, especially for the hosts Brazil.

Germany this evening humiliated five-time champions Brazil on their home soil, beating them 7-0 at Belo Horizonte in what is the worst ever defeat for the Selecao.

For Germany, it signified their qualification to the final of the World Cup, which they will play on Sunday against the winners of the match between Holland and Argentina.

It is also the largest victory ever obtained in a World Cup semi-final match. Brazil leave the competition shattered - the expectations of a final victory were high, but what they never imagined was an elimination with such a humiliating score.

Mueller opened the score after just 11 minutes, with Klose doublig the score in the 23rd. He became the best scorer ever in the World Cup, this being his 16th goal. He has surpassed Ronaldo.

A minute later Kroos made it 3-0 and the latter added a fourth in the 26h minute.

Khedira made it 5-0 in the 29th minute.

The Germans slowed down late in the first half, and the half-time score remained 5-0. It was, however, already game over.

Brazil had a couple of chances to reduce the distance early in the second half, but the Germans scored another two goals through substitute Schurrle for a 7-0 score.

Oscar made it 7-1 with the last kick of the game, but there was little consolation for Brazil.
