The Nationalist party has approved developments on gas supply highlighted during a meeting by the European Commission, however states that it is unfortunate that a viability study has not yet been carried out by the government.
This again reconfirms Malta’s geographical importance regarding a much vital resource, gas. In a press release, the PN said, that during their administration they have always insisted that Malta could serve gas supply for southern Europe. This concept would have ensured a decrease in price for Malta through economies of scale, without the need of an LNG storage, which endures danger.
The viability study is co-funded by the European Union, however, has not yet been carried out. The reasons for this, the PN insist, are only known to Minister Konrad Mizzi. The PN concludes saying that the government has so far lacked to publish the revised national provision plan for clean energy. This should have been published in September 2013.
