Disabled dog doesn’t win race, but steals hearts

Malta Independent Tuesday, 22 July 2014, 11:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A disabled dog did not win a race held in Seattle over the weekend, but stole the hearts of all those watching.

Anderson Pooper, a disabled dachshund, competed in the Weinerdog Races at Emerald Downs in Washington.

Though Pooper's back legs are paralysed, the dachsund is seen running as fast as she can - and beating many of the other dogs who either veered off the trail or never even left the starting gate.

The video of his endeavour was uploaded online by the dog’s proud owners Dave and Brenda Sizer, and it has gone viral.

Dave told the Daily News that it took them 20 minutes to leave the finish line as several people wanted to pose for pictures and ask them questions.

The family adopted the dog, who had a spinal injury from an accident, four years ago.
