Police major served as coach of Sannat Lions last season

A copy of a match sheet featuring Munxar vs Sannat Lions, handed over by PN MP Jason Azzopardi to this newsroom, shows that police major Teddy Bajada served as coach of Gozitan football club Sannat Lions during the previous season.

The match sheet is dated 27 April 2014.

“Now that there is sufficient evidence that Mr Bajada, a police major, has served as coach of the club in breach of police ethics, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia, who stuck up for the club last week in parliament, should now come up with a valid reason why the club denied my statement,” Dr Azzopardi said.

Last week, the PN MP claimed in parliament that a major of the police force is breaching rules by coaching Sannat Lions.

Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis, who spoke on behalf of Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia, said that it is best that the question is asked to the minister concerned.

Sannat Lions denied that its football coach was a police major. It said that its coach was Patrick Camilleri who had no connection with the force.

In response, Dr Azzopardi challenged the club to publish the list of players and coach it handed the Malta Football Association in the last season before each game. He also challenged them to say who the club president today is.

“I have saved the club a lot of trouble and got hold of the match sheet myself instead since the club was finding it rather difficult to do so,” Dr Azzopardi said.
