PN insists Parliament should discuss Farrugia Sacco motion before summer break

The Nationalist Party in Opposition today said that if the government does not present the motion on the impeachment of Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco for discussion by this evening, Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco will retire without a decision being taken.

This evening’s sesssion is the last one before parliament stops for a summer break, and will be discussing the situation in Libya.

Mr Justice Farrugia Sacco retires in August and with Parliament to convene in September or October, this means that he would have retired by the time Parliament meets again.

Justice should be equal to all, but in more ways than one the government is hindering its process. The Farrugia Sacco issue is a case in point. The PN will insist till the last moment that the impeachment motion is discussed, and is therefore challenging the government to have Parliament debate the issue before the summer holidays.

On a separate note, the PN said that the government failed to take steps against the chairman of Gozo Channel Joe Cordina who admitted that he did not rope in the police in a case where one of the company’s employees stole  €4,000 in ticket earnings.

”The government is simply telling us that it is incapable of treating everyone in the same way when it comes to such issues,” the PN said.
