Students to get exam results after unions withdraw university directives; PN reacts

Malta Independent Friday, 25 July 2014, 16:16 Last update: about 11 years ago

The Malta Union of Teachers and the University of Malta Academic Staff Association have withdrawn directives after a fruitful meeting with the Education Ministry, the Department of Information said today.

This means that students will now be receiving the results of their annual examinations, which had been withheld as part of the industrial action.

The DOI said that the unions and the government established foundations on which a future agreement will be reached.

The Malta Independent yesterday reported that the lecturers were demanding an increase totalling €8 million spread over five years.

In a statement issued through spokesman Joe Cassar, the Nationalist Party welcomed the development and said this means that the injustice being suffered by the students will now come to an end.

It is clear that after PN leader Simon Busuttil added his name to the petition being gathered by the KSU, the government was constrained to react and find a solution.

The important thing now is for students to get their results as quickly as possible so as those who have an opportunity to go abroad will not miss the chance.
