38 year old Harish Daswani, from St Julians, today pleaded not guilty to charges of human trafficking brought against him.
Last June, Daswani hired Oriance Kelin, from Indonesia, as a carer for his father. Allegedly, Daswani took away Kelin's passport and made her work over 40 hours a week without pay. Daswani is also being accused of injuring Kelin and threatening her.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him, adding that his behavior towards the carer was always correct.
Daswani was granted bail against a deposit of €2500 and personal guarantee of €5000.
Dr Roberto Montalto appeared for the accused.
