More Maltese arriving from Libya tonight, PN thanks all involved in rescue

A number of Maltese nationals are expected to arrive in Malta later on this evening on board a Libyan Airlines flight from Mitiga, this paper has learnt.

They are said to include two wounded persons.

The aircraft is expected to land in Malta at 10pm but according to flight information gathered from other websites, the plane should take off at 6.30pm. The flight duration is one hour.  

Sources said Maltese some Maltese citizens are expected to be on board the plane.

A number of international flights are being operated from the airport, which is located some 8 kilometers from Tripoli.  

According to government sources, there are still 99 Maltese nationals in Libya. 

Libyans ‘close to Malta’ involved in Martin Galea rescue

In the meantime, the Nationalist Party today thanked all those who had done their utmost to save Martin Galea, who was abducted in Libya on July 17. Mr Galea was released and returned to Malta yesterday evening.

The PN particularly thanked Maltese Consul to Libya Marisa Farrugia, whom Mr Galea had credited with saving his life.

The Nationalist Party said it was also informed that a number of Libyan persons who are close to Malta had helped. “These persons worked behind the scenes and the party thanks them for all their hard work in these difficult times.”

The PN also wished Mr Galea well and hoped he would return to his normal life after the ordeal he went through.
