A gamble too far for two Maltese-Australian holidaymakers

Malta Independent Thursday, 31 July 2014, 13:04 Last update: about 11 years ago

Two Maltese-Australians were today conditionally discharged for stealing a wallet to fund their gambling habit. Maria Camilleri, 57 and Josephine Saliba, 61, pleaded guilty to the theft which took place at the Oracle Casino in Qawra on Tuesday.

The Court today heard how the two women gambled away all their money, and then stole the wallet containing around €100 in cash in order to fund their habit.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman called the two women “very stupid” for committing such a crime while on holiday.

Prosecuting Inspector Godwin Scerri said the two women had cooperated with investigations.

They were conditionally discharged for two years.
