PN implores government not to overlook private healthcare sector

Malta Independent Friday, 1 August 2014, 14:38 Last update: about 11 years ago

The government should mobilise all resources including those in the private sector in order to offer patients the best possible care, the Nationalist Party said today.

The government should accept the Oppositions proposal to allow patients to have their operations undertaken by the private sector in Malta, rather than having to go abroad, the PN said.

Speaking during a visit to St Anne’s clinic in Birkirkara, PN Health spokesperson Claudio Grech said private hospitals should be viewed as strategic partners in tackling the problems faced by the health sector.

The PN’s spokesperson for EU affairs Marthese Portelli said that EU funds could potentially be utilised in order to better the service offered by private hospitals.

Ms Portelli implored the government to stop dragging its feet on the private members bill presented by the PN in May.
