A 'controlled' explosion at Mqabba raised a false alarm this evening as a large blast was heard in the village and the surrounding area. 

Police officers said that the blast was caused after fireworks enthusiasts were disposing of some leftover fireworks, following the village feast last weekend.

No one was injured.
