Neighbourhood watch programme to be implemented in Attard

The Neighbourhood Watch Programme is to be implemented in Attard once again, council mayor Stefan Cordina confirmed today.

The unanimous decision was taken yesterday evening.

Yesterday, The Malta Independent reported that the council was extremely concerned about the possibility that Attard is the next target of professional thieves after doodles were found scribbled on the intercoms of homes in the locality.

The development comes after a spate of burglaries in localities such as Sliema, St Paul’s Bay and St Julian’s. The above mentioned localities reported similar situations to that of Attard.

Mr Cordina said: “The council will be informing residents about the programme and residents in each street in turn will appoint a street leader.

“Without the cooperation of residents, the programme would not work as is meant to so it is vital residents cooperate with the council for this to happen,” he said.

Mr Cordina said neighbourhood watch stickers will be distributed to residents participating in the programme and are to be displayed on window panes of houses as a deterrent.
