Malta Independent Saturday, 23 August 2014, 14:15 Last update: about 11 years ago

A Spanish youth today admitted to damaging six cars in Swieqi yesterday morning.

Alfonso Lorente, 23, from Spain and currently residing in Swieqi was handed a 14-month jail-term suspended for three years by Magistrate Neville Camilleri.

His friend, Adolfo Romero, 22, also from Spain and residing in Swieqi was found guilty of damaging one of the cars, a Red Mini Cooper.  Romero was given an 8-month jail-term suspended for a year.

The two youths paid off the €1301.81 worth of damage to five of the cars.

The owner of the sixth car is still being traced by the Police as it has foreign number plates.

Inspector Trevor Micallef said it was only because one of the victims saw the two youths committing the vandalism that they were brought to justice.

An ex-policeman also saw the two youths and followed them to their Swieqi home.

The two Spaniards will be leaving Malta on Monday.
