Malta Independent Saturday, 23 August 2014, 17:02 Last update: about 11 years ago
There were two air raids over Tripoli today and 15 militants were killed and 20 injured. This was stated by sources near the Misurata brigade, code-named Operation Dawn, who hold Islamic views. According to the same sources the raids hit the Ministry of the Interior which the militants had announced over the past days they had taken it over. According to a Reuters report the unidentified planes also attacked the area near the Tripoli airport. Last Monday the Libyan government had confirmed another air raid. Meanwhile a boat carrying some 200 sub-Saharan migrants was shipwrecked off Tripoli yesterday. Only 16 persons were saved and some 170 are missing. Bodies of dead migrants were seen floating in the sea.  Most of the victims are from Somalia and Eritrea. Among the bodies that have been pulled out of the sea was the body of a small boy wearing a safety jacket. The shipwreck took place off the shore of Garaboulis, some 60km east of Tripoli.
