Former President’s PRO files judicial letter against PM

Malta Independent Thursday, 28 August 2014, 12:10 Last update: about 11 years ago

Marica Mizzi, who worked as communications coordinator for former President of the Republic George Abela, today filed a judicial protest against the Prime Minister and the head of the civil service Mario Cutajar, claiming her contractual conditions were breached.

Ms Mizzi’s contract was terminated in April this year. She argued that there has been a breach of her contractual conditions since she did not receive the benefits she was entitled to as a result of her contract’s termination. Her contract was terminated after there was a change in the presidency. The law stipulates that such persons who end up in a similar situation as Ms Mizzi should be entitled to a sum of money.

In her protest, she argued that individuals who were in a similar position as her, were paid the benefits they were entitled to, but in Ms Mizzi’s case this did not happen.

Ms Mizzi said that at first she was told by representatives of the Office of the Prime Minister that she would receive the benefits, only to be told later on that a decision had been taken that she would not be paid.

Dr Ian Spiteri Bailey signed the judicial letter.
