Malta Independent Monday, 1 September 2014, 11:49 Last update: about 11 years ago

The body of Mario Camilleri senior, L-imniehru, was exhumed from the grave for examinations in July 2013, and the prosecution has made a request for his reburial.

Experts who conducted the examination will be testifying before Magistrate Micallef Trigona next week in the case of the police vs George and Jason Galea.

The prosecution informed the Court that in the coming sitting, the prosecution plans on bringing in experts who examined Mario Camilleri's skull to testify, after his body was re-exhumed from the grave.

Following the coming testimony in Magistrate Micallef Trigona’s courtroom, the prosecution wishes to bury the body. To this end, the prosecution informed the court due to the fact that the copy of the inquiry regarding Mario Camilleri’s death is exhibited in these acts.

Defence Attorneys Joe Giglio and Franco Debono had no comments on this and the Court ordered that in the eventuality that Magistrate Micallef Trigona authorise the burial, this will be allowed to occur by this Court.

Kenneth Ciantar from zurrieq who works in the mortuary at Mater Dei gave his testimony and said that on the 23rd of July 2013, the body was exhumed, placed in a body bag, and taken in a police hearse.

Giving his testimony, Officer Charlot Cassar said he worked on a number of things related to the case.  He conducted examinations on the field in Birzebbugia, where indications of blood were present. He also examined a room found in the field in order to examine the area for traces of blood. A plastic bag was found in the field and contained traces of blood. All evidence, photos and reports were then sent to Marisa Farrugia.

Examinations on three vehicles also took place. Traces of blood were found on a number of them.

Architect Richard Aquilina, in his testimony, said that he made a plan of the area where the incident took place in Birzebbugia. He was brought in as an expert in the murder of Mario Camilleri and his son. He said that during that investigation, other bones were found, belonging to Matthew Zahra.

The case is set to resume on October 13.
