Consultation on elderly homes continues

Malta Independent Tuesday, 2 September 2014, 20:03 Last update: about 11 years ago
The consultation process on the drafting of national minimum standards for homes for the elderly resumed today, with Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Justyne Caruana visiting the St Anne Residence in the Gozo General Hospital. Dr Caruana explained that these meetings were being held to provide residents of such homes with the opportunity to voice their concerns and complaints, and that workers at the residence were also given the opportunity to speak up. The parliamentary secretary said that the main objective behind the national minimum standards was to ensure that residents of homes for the elderly fully participate in the drafting a care plan based on their personal needs and which fully respects their dignity. The parliamentary secretariat has also set up a Freephone – 8007 2367 – through which residents of homes for the elderly and their relatives can lodge complaints about the quality of care.
